Soran — also transcribed Sawran or Suran (صوران) — is a town in A'zaz District in the north of Aleppo Governorate, and the seat of the sub-district that carries its name. Syria's 2004 population census recorded 6,988 residents in the town itself and 30,032 across the Suran sub-district as a whole, together with 4,874 households in the sub-district. These are the national census tables published by OCHA on the Humanitarian Data Exchange.

Soran's standing in the area is administrative before anything else: the sub-district it heads groups the town with a set of smaller farming settlements of the northern Aleppo countryside, among them Ehteimlat, Yamama, Kafra and Rael. It should not be confused with the larger town of the same Arabic name in Hama Governorate, which the same census recorded separately.

No damage assessment specific to Soran has been published by the international bodies that produce such surveys for Syria. The documented record for this part of Aleppo Governorate is at present held at the level of the district and its centre rather than at the level of the town, so no building count and no damage percentage can responsibly be given for Soran itself.

The nearest institutional measurement covers A'zaz City, the centre of the district in which Soran lies. UNOSAT analysed a Pleiades very-high-resolution satellite image acquired on 9 February 2023, following the earthquake of 6 February 2023, and within an analysed area of about 30 km² identified 18 damaged structures and 73 potentially damaged (published 15 February 2023). UNOSAT states that this is a preliminary analysis that has not yet been validated in the field, and the figures relate to A'zaz City, not to Soran.

No recovery or reconstruction figures specific to Soran were found in institutional publications at the time of writing. Where such work is documented later, it belongs in this section with its publisher and year.
